A photo of my first Katydid, which proceeded to bite me.
The same tough cookie head on- it tried to hide in a pine tree, but I spotted too green a leaf amongst the needles... wrong plant camouflage is a Katydont...ouch...
This is some kind of Conehead Katydid, check out its pointedly pointed peak. Bugging is an extreme sport by the way; got this one leaning over a rocky railing at my family's cottage in the Adirondacks. My mom wouldn't let me break out the roofing ladder (geez, this is what health insurance is for).
Looking at me askance or blinded by my headlamp. I wish I had my flip cam audio, it proceeded to break out in a long shrill bug ballad for a few minutes soon afterwards.
This looks like a different species of Katydid, much thinner, perhaps a Fork-tailed Katydid?
Same insect, different angle, hanging out on a Queen's Anne Lace by the roadside.
This is a type of Shield-back Katydid; I am thinking it's either the American or Short-legged kind, help..?
Same insect, head on check out his mouth parts... and yeah, his legs look pretty short from here.
Ha, this was on the window at work! I only had my iPhone on hand so not too crisp, but still, looks like he's sky diving...
